We may be a month behind on moving. That’s because finding a place in Amsterdam has been way harder than we could have ever expected. We were able to secure an AirBnB that will take Iggy. We have had to sell a kidney to pay for it. (Clearly her kidney, I’m saving mine to pay off my student loans)
So after dropping about $2500 on one month’s stay for November, we purchased our flights. The website we purchased our tickets through didn’t make it clear that our stopover in New York will come with some bumps. We’re landing at LaGuardia and have to fly out of JFK just THREE HOURS later! Which means our timid dog has to get it together and use the bathroom between an Uber ride from one airport to the other.
Getting Started
As soon as we touch down in AMS, we have to start beating the block looking for a long term housing solution. It takes an average of 3 months for most people to find a place.. so we are going to try to set up as many appointments as possible before we even land. You should NEVER book a place without seeing it in person. We learned that lesson with our move to Denver. We’ve lined up a few trustworthy real estate agencies including one that hosted 16 episodes of House Hunters International.
Now, more that ever, we’re just playing the waiting game. We decided to stay with a friend in Frisco for the last month to be closer to all our friends. It’s been great being able to see everyone a lot more. The problem, however, is Frisco has a much higher cost of living than Waxahachie. Going out means paying club prices as opposed to small time bar prices. We’ve tried to balance that out with staying in and playing Fallout 76 as much as possible. So if you want to get a hold of us, you know where we will likely be, right in front of the TV trying not to spend money haha.
Now with 2 1/2 weeks to go until the move, it’s starting to be crunch time. Our stuff isn’t selling nearly as quick as we though they would. We have a ton of board games and a D&D book lot that was a steal of a deal. Besides a few more odds and ends, that’s kind of a big focus for us.
We hope to hear from and see as many of our friends as possible before we leave. Drop us a comment on social media and ask a question. We’d love to hear from you!
